An elite mid-major defensive star is transferring, as San Diego State forward Magoon Gwath has entered his name in the transfer portal. The news was first reported by the San Diego-Union Tribune's Mark Zeigler.
A 6'9 redshirt freshman, Gwath was named both the Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, after averaging 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in 26 games. However those numbers are a bit deceptive, as after a slow start he had a seven-game stretch in January and February where he averaged 13.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game.
Given his athleticism and youth he should be one of the most coveted players in the portal this spring.
