BYU star freshman Kanon Catchings has decided to transfer, in news first reported by Sam Kayser of 247 High School Sports.

Originally committed to Purdue, Catchings decided to decommit late in the process last summer and landed at BYU as a highly-touted recruit with first round NBA upside. Unfortunately, it never fully materialized as Catchings had an up-and-down year where he showed some flashes, but none consistently. Catchings finished his only year in Provo averaging 7.2 points per game on 35 percent shooting, but played just nine total minutes during the Cougars' three NCAA Tournament games.

Despite the modest stats, Catching is still a 6'9 forward with deep three-point range (35 percent on the year) and all the tools to be an NBA player.

He'll still be very coveted, and has three years of college eligibility remaining.
