A fifth - FIFTH - marquee transfer commits to Texas

Updated: Jun 27, 2021

It's been a busy off-season for new Texas coach Chris Beard - and he wrapped it in style on Tuesday with a marquee transfer commit. That's when UMass center Tre Mitchell, who chose the Longhorns over Florida State, LSU and others.

Mitchell is a former Top 100 recruit who was an All-A10 performer this season in Amherst, averaging 18.8 points per game and just under eight boards per contest as well.

He becomes the fifth marquee transfer to choose Texas this off-season, joining All-Pac 12 guard TImmy Allen (Utah), the SEC's leading rebounder Dylan Disu (Vanderbilt), Christian Bishop (a starter on Creighton's Sweet 16 squad) and Devin Askew, who began his career at Kentucky.

Expect the Longhorns to start next season in the Top 10 of most polls.
