Villanova Returns Two Key Players in Gillespie and Samuels

Even though this is a transfer-orientated website, there is big news coming from Villanova that will make the Wildcat faithful and Jay Wright happy. Collin Gillespie and Jermaine Samuels are returning. Both broke the news on the respective Twitter feeds.

Gillespie, who injured his knee late in the regular season and missed both the Big East and NCAA Tournaments, and Samuels will both return for a fifth year. Gillespie was among the nation’s leaders in assist to turnover ratio. He averaged 14.0 points per game this season and has played in 118 career games making 87 starts.

Samuels will also return for a fifth year. He stepped up in Gillespie’s absence averaging 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per outing in the postseason. Samuels has started 76 of his career 115 games played.

Both players are taking advantage of the rule the NCAA put in place allowing student-athletes to retain eligibility regardless of how many games they played in the pandemic 2020-221 academic year.
