The long, winding career of Alterique Gilbert appears like it will continue for at least one more year. The guard, who averaged 10.3 points per game for Wichita State this past season, has decided to again put his name in the transfer portal.
If it feels like Gilbert has been in college forever, that isn't an exaggeration. He was a 2016 McDonald's All-American, entering college the same season as Lonzo Ball, De'Aaron Fox and others. Unfortunately, injuries robbed him of his first two years in college, before two productive years at UConn. With a season of eligibility left he elected to play for the Shockers last summer, where he was second on the team in scoring.
But, with the NCAA granting an extra year of eligibility to all players, it appears as though Gilbert will play one final season in college hoops, somewhere other than Wichita.
